Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 25, 2026
What changed in this version
- Section 3 now explains how tags are made: machine learning and a secure AI language model suggest them, and none is used until a person reviews its timing, severity, and category.
- Section 1.1 now separates two things. Importing a book still sends us only details about the file. Uploading a book for filtering, which you choose to do, sends us a copy of the audio, and the new Uploaded Audiobooks entry explains how we handle it.
- Section 1.1 now covers filter token purchases and balances.
- Sections 1.1 and 4 now cover purchases made through Google Play on Android, and Section 1.1 now covers referral codes.
- Sections 2 and 3 now explain how we use an uploaded copy: only to create, check, and correct filters for that book.
- Section 4 now explains which service providers handle uploaded files and the text transcribed from them.
- Sections 6 and 7 now explain how long we keep an uploaded copy and how to have it deleted.
Nothing else about how we collect, process, or share your data has changed. We still do not sell your personal information and we still do not share it with advertising or tracking networks.
AudioHaven is a product of Ellis Studios LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), which is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile applications for iOS and Android and any related services (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide to Us
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed version of your password. We do not store plaintext passwords.
- Profile Information: Any optional profile details you choose to provide, such as a display name.
- Filter Preferences: Your selected content filter settings (e.g., which categories of content you choose to filter such as language, violence, sexual content, crude humor, and substance references), including settings you apply to a specific title or to individual passages within a title.
- Communications: Information you provide when you contact us for support, submit feedback, report a missing filter, or report a bug. Bug reports may include device and playback context to help us diagnose the issue.
- Communication Preferences: Whether you have opted in to marketing email, and a record of when and how you opted in or out. That record includes the date, the IP address the choice was made from, and where it was made (for example, at registration, in app settings, or via an unsubscribe link). We keep it so we can demonstrate that we only email people who asked to be emailed.
- Imported Audiobooks: If you import an audiobook you own ("Bring Your Own Title"), we collect details about the file, such as title, author, narrator, duration, chapter structure, and a content fingerprint used to match it to our filter data, along with your confirmation that you legally own the file. Importing does not send us the audio. The audio stays on your device unless you choose to upload it, as described in the next item.
- Uploaded Audiobooks: If we do not have filters for a book you imported, you can choose to upload a copy of it so we can create them. When you do, we receive and store the audio file, the details listed above, your confirmation that you own the file and that it is DRM-free, and the status of the upload. We store the copy privately on servers in the United States. It is never streamed, shared, sold, or made available to other users, including members of your household, and playback always uses the file on your device.
- Linked Retailer Accounts: If you link a Libro.fm, AudiobooksNow, or Downpour account, your sign-in session is stored only on the device you linked it from, and that device talks to the retailer directly. We never receive your retailer password or session. We do receive the list of audiobooks in that retailer library, such as title, author, narrator, ISBN, purchase date, and file details, so we can match them to our filter catalog, along with the status of the link and when it last synced.
- Librarian Conversations: If you use the Librarian, our in-app reading assistant, we store your conversations with it, a short summary of them, and the reading preferences you confirm it should remember, so it can recommend books and podcasts. You can delete conversations, remove individual remembered preferences, or reset its memory in the app.
- Listening Preferences: Preferences you set during onboarding or in the app, such as favorite genres, authors, and narrators, and reading-taste settings used to personalize recommendations.
- Content Requests: Audiobooks or podcasts you ask us to add to the catalog or to prioritize for filtering.
- Household Information: If you create or join a household, we collect the household name, your role within it, and, for any child accounts a parent sets up, the display name and the content approvals and filter settings the parent configures.
- Subscription Information: When you purchase a subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play, we receive and store your subscription plan, status, renewal dates, and transaction identifiers from that store. For Google Play purchases this includes the purchase token and the order details Google reports, such as the order ID, price, and refunds. If you buy filter tokens, we receive the same kind of transaction details for that purchase, and we keep a record of the tokens your account and household have earned, bought, used, and had refunded. We never receive or store your card or bank details.
- Referrals: If you share or use a referral code, we store the code, which account referred which, and whether a referral reward was earned and delivered.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the Service, including titles and episodes you listen to, listening duration and playback position, playback events (such as play, pause, resume, and completion), which segments are filtered or skipped, and search and download activity. We use this to operate playback, improve the accuracy and timing of content filtering, and understand engagement.
- Search Queries: When you search in the app, we record the words you searched for, where in the app you searched, how many results came back, and whether you opened one. We store this only as a daily count for each search term, with no link to your name, account, or device. We use it to decide which books and podcasts to add.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and app version.
- Push Notification Tokens: If you enable notifications, we collect a push token from Apple Push Notification service (iOS) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android) so we can deliver notifications to your device. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
- Log Data: IP address, access times, pages viewed, and app crash reports.
1.3 Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect precise geolocation data.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, camera, or microphone.
- We do not collect financial or payment information directly. All payment processing is handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
1.4 Website Analytics
When you visit our marketing website (audiohaven.app) or Help Center (help.audiohaven.app), we collect privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics to understand how visitors find and use these sites.
- Cookieless: This analytics uses no cookies and no persistent identifiers. It does not track you across other websites or build a profile of you over time, so no cookie-consent banner is required.
- What we record: Page views, the page that referred you, basic interactions such as which buttons or links you click, and, for visits arriving from a campaign link, standard UTM parameters.
- Counting unique visitors: To count unique daily visitors we generate a one-way, daily-rotating identifier derived from your IP address and browser. It cannot be used to identify you, resets every day, and your raw IP address is never stored.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain the Service, including delivering filtered audiobook playback based on your preferences.
- To create and manage your account.
- To create filters for audiobooks you choose to upload, and to check and correct those filters when someone reports a problem.
- To personalize your experience by remembering your filter preferences and listening history.
- To improve the Service, including improving our content filtering accuracy and tagging pipeline.
- To communicate with you about updates, security alerts, and support inquiries. These are account and service messages, and they are required in order to operate your account, so they are not optional.
- To send you marketing and product email, but only if you opt in. This may include news about titles added to the catalog, new app features, and occasional reminders about content waiting in your library. This is off by default. You may turn it on or off at any time in the app settings, and every marketing message includes a one-click unsubscribe link that does not require you to sign in. Opting out of marketing email does not affect the account and service messages described above.
- To monitor and analyze usage trends to improve functionality and user experience.
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Content Filtering and Processing
AudioHaven uses a content tagging pipeline to identify and tag segments within audiobooks. This processing is important for you to understand:
- Content Processing: Audiobook content is processed through our tagging pipeline on our servers, not on your device. This includes copies of audiobooks you choose to upload. We may make working copies of an upload, such as chapter files and a text transcript, and we keep them as privately as the upload itself.
- How Tags Are Suggested: We use a combination of machine-learning models (such as speech-to-text) and secure processing by an AI language model to find suggested tags. The language model receives text, not audio, under terms that forbid using it to train AI models.
- Human Review: Suggested tags are never used for filtering until a person on our team has reviewed and signed them off, checking each tag's timing, severity, and category. Reviewers do not have access to your personal information or listening habits.
- No Microphone Audio: We do not record, collect, or process any audio from your device's microphone. The only audio we process is audiobook content in our library and audiobooks you choose to upload for filtering. We use an uploaded copy only to create filters for that book, to check and correct them when someone reports a problem, and to re-check them when we improve our filtering.
- Filter Data: The content filter segment data (timestamps and categories) is stored on our servers and delivered to your device to enable real-time filtering during playback. Filter data contains no audio. Filters created from an upload, once reviewed, may also be delivered to other users who own the same edition of that book. They do not include your name or any other information about you.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We share information with third-party service providers who help us operate the Service. These include cloud hosting and storage providers, our email provider (used to send account messages such as verification codes, password resets, and household invitations, and, if you have opted in, marketing and product email), push notification services (Apple and Google), error-monitoring tools, and Anthropic, the AI model provider that processes your Librarian messages so the Librarian can reply. Anthropic receives the messages you send the Librarian along with the reading preferences it needs to answer, and may not use them to train its models. If you upload an audiobook, our cloud hosting and storage provider (Amazon Web Services) holds the file, and, only after you allow it when you upload, text transcribed from it is processed by Anthropic to help prepare the filters our reviewers check. Anthropic does not receive the audio, may not use the text to train its models, and deletes it within 30 days. People on our team may listen to parts of an upload to check and correct its filters. These providers may use your information only as necessary to provide services to us. Our email provider receives your email address and whether a given message was delivered, bounced, or reported as spam, which we use to keep our mailing list accurate. We do not share your listening history or filter preferences with our email provider.
- App Stores: When you purchase a subscription or filter tokens, the Apple App Store or Google Play processes your payment and shares subscription status and transaction information with us so we can provide the features you paid for. When you buy through Google Play, we pass Google an identifier for your AudioHaven account, not your name or email, so the purchase can be tied to your account. To deliver a referral reward on Google Play, we may ask Google to move your next billing date.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process, such as a subpoena, court order, or government request.
- Safety and Rights: We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person, protect our rights or property, or investigate fraud or security issues.
- Business Transfers: If AudioHaven is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change in ownership.
- With Your Consent: We may share your information for any other purpose with your explicit consent.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encrypting passwords using industry-standard hashing algorithms.
- Using HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data transmitted between your device and our servers.
- Restricting access to personal information to authorized personnel only.
- Regularly reviewing and updating our security practices.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. Specifically:
- Account Data: Retained until you delete your account or request deletion.
- Usage Data: Retained for up to 24 months for analytics and service improvement purposes, then anonymized or deleted.
- Search Query Counts: Deleted after 180 days. Because they are not linked to your account, we cannot find or delete a particular person's searches on request, and the counts remain after you delete your account.
- Librarian Conversations: Deleted 12 months after they start. A conversation you delete is permanently removed within 90 days. Remembered preferences are kept until you remove them, reset the Librarian's memory, or delete your account.
- Uploaded Audiobooks: Kept until you ask us to delete them or you delete your account, and then deleted within 30 days, along with the chapter files we made from them. We keep the text transcript we made from an upload after the file is deleted, so we can keep its filters accurate; it is never shown to anyone or used for any other purpose. Filters we created from an upload contain no audio and are kept after the upload is deleted. If we remove an upload after a valid copyright notice, we delete its transcript right away and keep the file, unused, for 21 days in case you send a counter-notice, then delete it.
- Filter Preferences: Retained as long as your account is active and deleted upon account deletion.
- Log Data: Retained for up to 12 months for security and debugging purposes.
Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
- Deletion: You may request that we delete your personal information. You can delete your account through the app settings or by contacting us. You can also ask us to delete an audiobook you uploaded without deleting your account.
- Data Portability: You may request a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format.
- Analytics: We use the usage data described in Section 1.2 only to operate and improve the Service. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third-party advertising or tracking networks. You may request deletion of this data at any time by contacting us, and it is deleted along with your account.
- Marketing Communications: You may opt out of marketing and product email at any time, with no effect on your account. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing message we send, which works in one click and does not require you to sign in, or turn off marketing email in the app settings. We honor opt-out requests promptly. You will still receive account and service messages such as password resets, verification codes, and security alerts, because those are necessary to operate your account.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@audiohaven.app. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for and is not directed to children under the age of 13. All users must be at least 13 years old. This includes managed "child" accounts within a household. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
A parent or legal guardian with a Family plan may create and manage child accounts for members of their household who are 13 or older. A "child account" is a managed account that lets a parent control the content and filter settings available to a younger household member. The parent sets up and manages the account, and the account holder does not make purchases. For a child account we collect only what is needed to provide the Service: a display name, listening progress, and the content and filter settings the parent approves. We do not use this information for advertising, and we do not sell it. A parent can review, change, or delete a child account and its associated data at any time from within the app.
Users between the ages of 13 and 17, including those using a managed child account, may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who has agreed to our Terms of Service. If you believe someone under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@audiohaven.app and we will delete it.
9. Third-Party Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by AudioHaven. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party services.
Audiobooks you stream from our catalog are public domain recordings sourced from LibriVox and other public domain sources, and podcasts are accessed from publicly available RSS feeds indexed by Podcast Index. Other audiobooks play from files you own, either imported from your device or downloaded from a retailer account you linked. LibriVox recordings are in the public domain and are provided by volunteer readers. AudioHaven's use of this content does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by LibriVox or Podcast Index.
10. App Store Specific Terms
When you download or use our app through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, the following applies:
- Apple App Store: Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support services for the app. In the event of any failure of the app to conform to applicable warranties, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app.
- Google Play Store: Google's standard terms and privacy policy apply to your use of the Google Play Store. Any purchases are subject to Google Play's refund policies.
11. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and maintained on servers located in the United States. If you are accessing the Service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where our servers are located.
By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and the processing of your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
12. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including:
- The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- The right to request deletion of your personal information.
- The right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. As noted above, we do not sell your personal information.
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
To exercise these rights, please contact us at support@audiohaven.app.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice within the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The "Effective Date" at the top of this policy indicates when it was last updated.
Your continued use of the Service after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
