Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about AudioHaven.
General
AudioHaven is a content filtering app for audiobooks. It lets you listen to audiobooks and podcasts while automatically skipping content you'd rather not hear — like profanity, violence, sexual content, or crude humor. Think of it as ClearPlay or VidAngel, but for audiobooks.
During playback, our custom audio player monitors your position in the audiobook. When you approach a segment that matches your filter preferences, the player automatically seeks past it in real-time. You hear everything you want and skip everything you don't.
No. The original audiobook is never altered. Filtering happens in real-time during playback via our custom player. No edited copies are created — this is the same approach that ClearPlay and VidAngel use for video content.
Legal
Yes. The Family Movie Act of 2005 (also called the Family Entertainment and Copyright Act) explicitly authorizes technology that skips or mutes content during playback of an authorized copy, as long as no permanent altered copy is created. ClearPlay has operated legally under this framework since 2002.
Our filtering technology doesn't require publisher approval because we don't modify the content. Just as ClearPlay doesn't need permission from movie studios, AudioHaven doesn't need permission from publishers. The legal framework protects the user's right to filter during playback.
Content
AudioHaven supports 9 filter categories: Profanity, Slurs, Hate Speech, Blasphemy, Violence, Sexual Content, Romance, Crude Humor, and Substance Use. You can enable or disable each category individually.
Absolutely. You have full control over which categories to filter. Want to skip profanity but keep everything else? No problem. Every listener can tailor their experience.
Content goes through our pre-screening pipeline to identify potential segments, then human reviewers verify and refine every tag using our admin tagging tool. Every audiobook is reviewed by a real person before filters go live.
The Librarian is a reading assistant in the iPhone app. Ask it for your next book or podcast and it suggests titles that fit your filter settings, finds the next book in a series, and can add picks to your to-be-read list. It's included with Premium and the free trial.
Pricing
The AudioHaven player is completely free — browse, listen, build a library, download for offline, and enjoy podcasts at no cost. Premium filtering is $4.99/month or $39.99/year (save 33%), and the Family plan is $8.99/month or $74.99/year. Every paid plan includes a 14-day free trial.
Yes — every paid plan includes a 14-day free trial. You won't be charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel anytime from your iPhone or iPad's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
The Family plan ($8.99/month or $74.99/year) includes 5 individual accounts, each with their own playback history and filter preferences. Your household shares a single audiobook library — buy a book once and everyone has access.
On the Family plan, the account owner can designate members as Adults or Children. Child accounts don't have access to the store or browse features — instead, the parent approves which books appear in each child's library and sets their filter preferences. Children can't change their own filter settings.
Each family member can listen to a different audiobook simultaneously. For the same title, only one person can listen at a time — similar to sharing a physical book. Free public domain audiobooks (like our LibriVox collection) have no listening restrictions.
The free tier gives you a full audiobook player with podcast support, offline downloads, and progress sync. Premium adds real-time content filtering with 9 categories, word-level granularity, and severity controls. The Family plan adds shared libraries and parental controls on top of Premium.
Availability
More than 300 modern audiobooks have filters ready, alongside public domain classics from LibriVox and a large library of free podcasts. You can link your Libro.fm, AudiobooksNow, or Downpour account to bring in books you bought there, or import any DRM-free audiobook file you own (M4B or MP3). When an imported book matches a title in our filter catalog, your filters apply automatically.
AudioHaven is live on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. The Android app is in open testing on Google Play, so you can install it today, and the full release is coming soon. Web support is planned for a future phase.
